CCU Renovations are Complete!
Sunday, 15 January 2012 11:58

The final phase of the Continuing Care Unit renovations, which began early 2011, are finished, and the multi-phase project spanning over the past 2 _ years is now complete. The changes made to the unit are an effort to provide a high quality of life as well as excellent care for the kids who live here at ChildServe.

The architects, interior designers, and staff meticulously thought out every design decision. The end product is a new contemporary style, with bright colors and a progressive design to make the CCU an inviting and comfortable environment for patients, guests, and staff alike.

Each room can house up to two kids, and some upgrades to medical equipment have been made. In most rooms, hook-ups to oxygen and other gases are now on the wall at the head of the bed instead of obtrusive canisters on the floor. This creates a safer environment for both kids and staff.

There is a sunroom on the north end of the unit, roofed with specialty glass tiles to allow natural sunlight to fall into the room on its guests. The sunroom’s location near bedrooms and the nurse’s station encourages social interaction, but it also has a big-screen TV and other activities.

There is a living room on the south end of the unit that promotes a more calming experience. Away from most of the commotion of the unit, the lights are kept dimly lit and several couches and chairs fill the wall space.

CCU Service Manager Mark Hargrafen believes the importance of the renovation is rooted in the great life that ChildServe strives to create for kids every day.

“As staff members, we’ve taken a pledge to treat each other well and take superior care of children,” he says. “It only makes it easier with a lively place to call your home away from home.”
