The Benefits of Exercise for You and Your Family

If the word exercise makes you think of lifting weights in a gym or running endless miles on a treadmill, think again. We are all aware that exercise is important for a healthy life, but did you know that it is just as important for your kids to get the same kind of exercise each day? One of the best ways to promote that healthy lifestyle is for the whole family to be involved.

Moderate exercise for about 30 minutes a day is considered the standard for a healthy lifestyle. Some of the benefits of implementing that daily exercise include improved blood cholesterol levels, better circulation, the release of tension, improved self-image, counteracting anxiety and depression and even helping to boost your energy level. The benefits are endless, now you just have to find a kind of exercise that you can enjoy.

Finding ways to do family orientated exercise can be a breeze if you take the time to think of your options. One of the easiest exercises to do is brisk walking. If your children aren’t into power walking around the mall, have them go with you on walks with your family pet. If you don’t have a pet, set a destination like the library or movie store and have them walk with you their. Take your kids to the pool and instead of just sitting on the side getting a tan, encourage them to play water games. Contests for who can tread water the longest are great for both you and your kids. Involve your kids in sports like soccer, basketball or baseball. This will keep them active and while they are practicing, take the time to do your own workout of choice. Go for a bike ride as a family, or if you can all roller skate, take a trip around the neighborhood together. All of these small activities done on a regular basis can help improve the health of your entire family.
