Volunteer Opportunities

ChildServe volunteers are found in every area of the organization. They offer friendship and care to the children we serve, and provide much-needed support so our staff can help each child live a great life! Volunteer opportunities are available for individuals and groups at every ChildServe location and for all of our services. There are many opportunities to be involved directly with the children, or to support children indirectly, based on your interests. Volunteers are needed during the day, evenings and weekends. No experience is necessary. Time involvement will vary based on each volunteer’s schedule and availability. Opportunities can be scheduled on a one-time basis or as an ongoing volunteer opportunity.

What You Can Do as a ChildServe Volunteer

(Updated for 2007-2008 School Year) 

• One–on–one activities (ChildServe Habilitation Center and ChildServe Homes) – Make a connection with a child as you do things you both enjoy, including reading, socializing, going for walks, creating art projects, playing games, and much more. Click here for current opportunities.

• Activity Assistant (ChildServe Habilitation Center) – Set up leisure activities. Click here for current opportunities.

• Childcare (Ames and Johnston Childcare Centers) – Activities include assisting children with arts and crafts; helping the children explore books and reading to them individually or as a group; interacting and playing with the children; and feeding, playing with, and rocking babies. • Respite (Ames and Johnston Respite Centers) – Support groups of children on field trips in the community as well as assist with games, crafts and activities at the center. Click here for current opportunities.

• Office Assistant – Are you an organizational whiz? You can help with data entry, filing, copying and other projects. Click here for current opportunities.

• Facilities Upkeep – For those handy around the house, we always have Do-It-Yourself projects including painting, yard maintenance, sewing and more.
