Run, Walk & FUN 4 the Kids: Over $32,000 Raised to Support Summer Fun!
ChildServe‘s 2019 Run, Walk & FUN 4 the Kids flew by in a morning of fun! On Saturday, June 8, hundreds of people turned out to raise money for summer programs for children with special healthcare needs. Summer at ChildServe means days full of adaptive fun with trips to the pool, zoo, summer camp and more – all made possible with support from this event.
The Run, Walk & FUN 4 the Kids started off with a self-timed 5k run and 1 mile walk on the course through the neighborhood north of ChildServe in Johnston. The fun continued with a free pancake breakfast and Finish Line Festival complete with carnival games, prizes, and tours of the MercyOne helicopter.
This year over 980 registrants supported the cause in person or as a virtual runner, and 137 volunteers donated a total of 247 hours to help make the event a success.
“We are grateful for ChildServe’s incredible community of families, team members and supporters who came together because they believe in the spirit of a child,” says ChildServe CEO, Teri Wahlig, MD. “Through their support, we are able to provide specially designed summer programming to help the children we serve have a great summer of making memories and building important skills.”
Along with 14 amazing event sponsors who helped make the day a success, ChildServe supporters and parents of the kids we serve created fundraising pages to support the run. This includes Team Aedyn, who raised over $2,800! Many family members and friends of the kids we served also formed teams to help kick off the summer together. Team Jordyn was the largest with 45 members.
“We are fortunate to have many generous corporate and family sponsors participate in giving through our Run, Walk & FUN 4 the Kids. Their support allows us to impact programming for the more than 4,500 kids we serve and welcome the community to our campus for a fun day of fellowship and activities,” says Erica Axiotis, Director of Development. “Thank you to all that chose to sponsor and continue to help move our mission forward.”
With everyone’s help, ChildServe was able to raise over $32,000!
