A Special Birthday Gift
In 2015, ChildServe in Ames received a special birthday present fit for a 15-year milestone. Reece Sodders, an Eagle Scout from the Ames area, chose to make a uniquely accessible picnic table for the ChildServe – Ames respite center as part of his Eagle Scout project.
Reece decided to make this table different from others by putting accessible seating in the center of the table rather than just at the ends. He spent months researching what would best fit the respite center’s needs, including which types of wood and designs will last the longest. Reece’s Eagle Scout project was made possible by donations from the Ames High School Principles of Business class and Heart of Iowa Habitat for Humanity.
Reece was honored for his hard work and creativity at ChildServe – Ames’ 15th anniversary celebration. The celebration recognized Reece and his project and also featured a ribbon cutting and a magician performance.
