As Jeff and Nancy raised their son Joel, now 22, they’ve overcome challenges (and continue to face challenges), experienced growth and discovered opportunities to help their son become the confident young man he is today. Joel has a moderate intellectual disability, severe ADHD, as well as verbal communication difficulties. From struggling to find the right childcare provider when he was young, appealing insurance decisions, working thru IEPs, to enrolling him in programs and services to develop life and career skills as he got older, Jeff, Nancy, and Joel’s story offers a unique, first-person look at raising a child with special healthcare needs. You’ll also hear what is next for Joel as he transitions to adulthood.
