What would summer be without the outdoor activities you love?

For children with special healthcare needs, having summer fun can be challenging without the right support. Register for our run to help ChildServe provide programs that help children visit the zoo and Adventureland, go swimming at the pool, receive scholarships to Camp ChildServe, and enjoy other fun activities all summer long!

Run, Walk & FUN 4 the Kids

Whether you join our self-timed 5k or 1k run/walks, or just come out to cheer on friends and family: we can’t wait to see you there. Can’t join us on June 8, but still want to support the cause? Register as a virtual runner!

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are restrooms located?

Restrooms are located in ChildServe‘s Entrance B (Check-in) and the Finish Line Festival area (finish line).

Can I bring my pet?

Please do not bring your pets, even dogs on leashes, as there will be a very large crowd and many children who may be afraid of animals. Service animals are welcome.

What will happen if there is bad weather?

Your safety is our top priority. If severe weather threatens the area, we will make the necessary decisions and communicate them through email and social media. In the case of extreme heat and humidity, we may choose to cancel the 5k run/walk while keeping the 1K run/walk and Finish Line Festival in place.

Will any awards be given?

All the events at the Run, Walk, & FUN 4 the Kids are untimed. No awards will be given for the 5k or 1k run/walk events. Children who participate in the Children’s Fun Run will receive a prize.

Where should I pick up my packet?

All race packets can be picked up at ChildServe in Johnston, at Entrance B. Pick-Up time frames include:

  • Pre-Race: Friday, June 7, from 4 – 6 p.m.
  • Day-of: Saturday, June 8, from 7 – 8:30 a.m. Please note: No registrations or check-ins will take place after 8:30 a.m. on the day of the race.

What is for breakfast?

Johnston Kiwanis will provide a breakfast of pancakes and sausages from 8:30 – 11 a.m., or when supplies run out. Freewill donations are appreciated, but not required.

Can I pick up packets for a team/group of people I'm running with?

Yes, you can. Contact Roxanne Wicks at 515-727-1480 or roxannew@childserve.org so she can put your team’s packets together. If a runner’s registration form is incomplete (missing signature, event, or age), you will not be able to pick that packet up.

What does the Kid's Fun Run look like?

Kids of all ages can participate in an untimed 50-yard dash, which is run in heats grouped by age. The Kid’s Fun Run will begin at 10:15 a.m. All participants will earn a prize.
