Parent Talking to Child

If you’ve ever been to ChildServe you may have heard us talk about “believing in the spirit of a child.”

So, what do we mean by that?

We believe that there is so much more to each of us than our physical or mental abilities. The spirit of a child is wonder, curiosity, love, and joy. It’s this spirit that enables a child to look at a plain, empty cardboard box and imagine a rocket ship instead.

When we look at the children we serve, we see this spirit first, no matter their abilities. Our belief in the spirit of a child is the reason we work so hard on our mission:

“We partner with families to help children with special healthcare needs live a great life.”

Children with special healthcare needs, like everyone else, need support to let their spirit shine. We want to help each child safely access and explore their world, and be as healthy as possible inside and out so they can play, learn, and grow. A “great life” will look different for each child, just like my vision of a great life is different than yours. But some things are shared by all of us: a great life is about making the best of any circumstance, celebrating the love that flows between friends and family, and seeking out joy wherever it can be found.

As we listen closely to families, we are inspired by their knowledge and love of their child. In turn, we inspire them with opportunities, support, and community. I’m proud to be the CEO of an organization that strives to be a bridge to great life by believing in the spirit of a child.
