When Braelyn was presented with the news that the abnormality on her brain stem was back, she replied “I did it once and I am going to do it again.” After undergoing a second brain surgery, she spent 50 days at ChildServe’s Pediatric Inpatient Rehabilitation Medicine program, regaining her daily living skills with support from our inpatient nurses and therapists. Braelyn wanted to share her story to help inspire other kids who may experience a similar journey.
Rachel’s “Iowa Miss Amazing Teen Queen” title isn’t the only “amazing” thing about her. From overcoming challenges brought on by seizures to recovering skills after brain surgery, she’s inspired ChildServe team members with her hard work and bravery since she was three years old.
The idea of surgery can be daunting, but to 16-year-old Zoey, it felt more like a new beginning.
